Proof by the Birds From King of a Hundred Horsemen By Marie Étienne

The sequence from the book "King of a Hundred Horsemen" by the French poet Marie Etienne. The original book, Roi des cent cavaliers, was published by Flammarion in 2002.  Marilyn Hacker's translation will be published in the United States by Farrar Strauss & Giroux in the late fall of 2008. Other sections of this book, in Hacker's translation, have appeared in Pleiades, Mantis, Poetry Review, New Letters , WordsWithoutBorders and Crazyhorse.

Marilyn Hacker, is the author of eleven collections of poetry, including Desesperanto (Norton, 2003) and Essays on Departure (Carcanet Press, 2006, and eight collections of translated poetry. Marie Etienne's King of a Hundred Horsemen in her translation, winner of the first Robert Fagles Translation Prize, will be published by Farrar Strauss and Giroux in New York in September.
